Early Detection is Key

Early detection is the key to fighting lung cancer. Memorial Hermann Cancer Centers now offers Low-Dose CT (LDCT), an effective tool in screening for lung cancer. LDCT should be performed before a person shows any signs or symptoms of the cancer. Without this screening test, lung cancer is usually not found until a person develops symptoms – when the cancer can be much harder to treat.

Are You a Candidate for Screening?

According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), an LDCT lung screening is recommended for people who are at high risk of lung cancer.

  • Are you between the ages of 55-77?
  • Have you currently, or in the past, smoked at least one pack a day for 30 years?
  • Are you a current smoker or one who has quit within the last 15 years?
  • Do you have no signs or symptoms of lung cancer?

If you answered "yes" to all of the questions above, you might be at high risk for lung cancer and meet the guidelines for LDCT screening.

You will need an order for the lung screening from your healthcare provider before your exam.
