Cancer Nutrition

Maintaining good nutrition habits during cancer treatment can be a challenge for many patients. At Memorial Hermann, registered and licensed dietitians work with patients to translate the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living. They meet with cancer patients regularly to evaluate their nutrition status, provide counseling on eating strategies and recommend meal plans tailored to each patient’s specific needs.

Nutrition and Cancer

It can be difficult to eat with some types of cancer and cancer treatment. Speaking with a Registered Dietitian (RD) can help you learn eating strategies and cooking tips to help improve appetite and to make the most of each bite that you eat. All Memorial Hermann Cancer Center locations have a Registered Dietitian (RD) available to patients, please talk with your Doctor or Nurse on how to connect with your RD as part of your cancer treatment plan.

Dietitians consult with patients on:

  • Diabetes management
  • Diet management to address cancer treatment side effects
  • Nutritional research regarding cancer prevention and survivorship
  • Nutrition status prior to and following treatment and/or surgery
  • Set-up and management of tube feedings and IV parenteral support
  • Specific menu and food ideas for both patients and their families
  • Therapeutic diets
