Brain Tumor Treatment
Surgeons affiliated with Memorial Hermann are skilled in the resection of a broad range of primary and metastatic brain tumors, including:
Treatment for Brain Tumors
Neurosurgeons at Memorial Hermann routinely use innovative techniques in the care of patients. These include:
- Motor and language mapping
- Functional imaging techniques for localizing functional brain regions
- Awake craniotomies under local anesthesia
- Placement of intracavitary chemotherapy for high-grade brain tumors
Our affiliated neurosurgeons also perform minimally invasive procedures including transsphenoidal surgery and stereotactic radiosurgery, including Gamma Knife® Perfexion.
Treatment for brain tumor depends on the type of tumor. Most adult brain tumors are diagnosed and removed in surgery.
The brain tumor team commonly uses frameless stereotactic navigation to facilitate approaches to tumors, increasing accuracy and minimizing the impact on surrounding brain tissue.
To further enhance functional outcomes following tumor resection, the team is exploring the use of diffusion tensor imaging, a new modality for mapping major brain connection pathways in conjunction with functional magnetic resonance imaging.
